Works No. 3001, built 1892.

"Helen McGregor"

We have for sale a very early Aveling & Porter R15 road roller, you will notice from the works number that this is a particularly early engine in Aveling & Porter's production line. It was delivered new to Forfarshire County Council, Forfar District Committee in March 1892. By 1907 it was passed onto Robert McCarroll, a plant hirer based in Bishopbriggs. The date of when it was passed onto DC Stewart, Aberdeen is unknown, however it was presumably with them when road rollers were taken into the registration system in 1921 as numbers in the SA 4xxx series were issued around this time.

It is a single cylinder, 7 NHP, 2 speed engine with a few rather unusual features. You will notice on the pictures of the side of the cylinder block that the engine is fitted with governers; these governers were fitted from new and are an unusual feature on rollers. You will also notice the unusal cotton reel steering mounted on the sides. The original horse and "Invicta" sign for the front are present but not currently fitted.

This engine is in need of some attention. The boiler will need replacing before it can be steamed, along with some other work. We strongly recommend arranging a viewing to fully understand what needs to be done before purchase. Such viewings are available by appointment only with us, as the engine is based in the Yeovil, Somerset area.

This engine would make a lovely project, which would result in a very unusual and unique engine for the rallyfield.

£30,000
