Boiler Test

 Current

The rare opportunity to own a sorted and early example of the Marshall Britannia portable engine. Built at the Marshall works in 1897, 28810 was originally shipped to Victoria, Australia where it burnt straw and spent its working life. I don't have a huge amount regarding its life in Australia. It was shipped to the U.K. and returned to service in time for 1997, on its 100th birthday. Since that point, it has seen recreational use in the U.K. on the rally scene and privately. Most recently, it has had a large amount of boiler work meaning the boiler is now very good inside (As of March 2019, we are currently in the process of attaining a fresh 14 month boiler test, hot and cold, to ready it for the 2019 season). Previously, it has had its most recent boiler inspections carried out by D. J. Wothers & Sons Inspection Services with the most recent hydraulic being issues by M. Wothers in May 2017 following the recent boiler work.

Having steamed this lovely, characterful portable a couple of times in our yard, we are delighted to report she steams very freely and is a pleasure to use. The motion is smooth and the regulator responsive. All the fittings etc work as expected. It is fitted exclusively with a mechanical feed pump on the side for drawing water from a barrel for the boiler. The paint is pleasant enough, it is not perfect but suitable for the type of engine.

Overall, a good engine which is ready for the 2019 rally season (if someone else doesn't rally it, we certainly shall as it is a delight to run!). It is based at our premises, we always encourage viewings so if you wish to see it either hot or cold or both, please get in touch. We also offer a haulage service so if transport is an issue, please ask about what we can offer.

NEW PRICE £20,995
