Works number 10388 of 1922 was new to Eddison Plant of Dorchester where it became their fleet number 411. It received its Dorset registration of FX 9640, and spent most of its working life in Dorset although records show that it was taxed in their depots in Grantham and Exeter. It is fitted with a Morrisons scarifier no. 1968.

It is believed that it ended its working days on the Honiton by-pass after which it was sold in the early 1960's to John Henry Bowden Gundry of The Grange, Honiton where it was occasionally steamed before being laid up. It came to light in 2010 after languishing for 55 years in a barn and was sold at the auction of the late John Goundry along with Burrell Showmans Semper Fidelis.

It was aquired a couple of years ago by Bridport Foundry who fitted a new canopy. Other work to bring the roller back into steam was carried out by Mendip Steam. This has included a full re-tube and some replacement of boiler rivets. The boiler and firebox have survived in remarkably good condition and now has a long hydraulic ticket and a steam ticket.

The roller has a wealth of photographic history including some with its regular driver Tom House, along with much provenance. An article apears in the September issue of Vintage Spirit magazine, and is covered in the Eddison book, a Century of Service by R.A.Whitehead.

It retains its glorious and distinctive blue livery "working clothes" and is the sort of engine that would be ruined if it was stripped and re-painted. The roller also had pride of place in the Old Glory marquee at a previous years Great Dorset Steam Fair, where it attracted much attention.

You will notice this engine was available through ourselves a short while ago. It is still the same glorious engine it was 12 months ago which is in need of no serious work.
