A pleasant model of the popular GWR 1000 Class locomotive. The engine this model was based on was produced between 1945 and 1947 as a mixed traffic 4-6-0. A total of 30 locomotives were produced and were all named after counties. Sadly none of the locomotives survived into preservation with the last scrapped being 1011 "County of Chester" in November 1964. Thankfully, a replica of "County of Glamorgan" 1014 is currently under construction; further, the class is preserved in model form as presented for sale here. Our exmaple is based on 1023 "County of Oxford" of January 1947, which was scrapped in March 1963.

The model is highly detailed but does come with no paperwork. As such, it looks to have been more of a display item for a number of years. There is evidence of slight use at some point with scarse amount of soot around the top of the firebox. It is fitted with a grate suggesting it was fired using traditional fuel.

It looks to have a copper boiler which visually has no obivous defects - note we are selling this locomotive as seen with no boiler paperwork or test with the boiler in an unknown condition. Whilst we have no reason to believe there to be any issues, we can't gurantee its condition. For this reason, if you wish to steam the engine, it will need recommisioning with the usual niggles of an engine after it has been stood for any time.

It is authentically hand-painted which gives the engine slightly more character and complements the type of locomotive well. The boiler is fed with 2 injectors and a hand pump in the tender. It is also fitted with a whistle and all the controls in the cab seem free and likely to operate. All the buffers are sprung. It is driven, as per the full-sized counter part, by 2 cylinders. The engine came in with an original clipping, which looks to be from the class's debut in 1945, which details the original specifications and will be included with the engine.

This would make a fantastic little project to recommission, alternatively it makes an excellent display item for in the house!
