There are many 4" Foster single cylinder agricultural engines around but very rarely seen is the Double Crank Compound Road Locomotive version and we are lucky enough to have one of these engines in stock. A true compound with a working pressure of 160 psi.
Designed by the late Roy Mosely and based on Foster SRL no. 14502 "Victory" of 1920. Professionally built steel boiler by S.Dakin with expanded in tubes. Feed is by two injectors and a crankshaft driven water pump with by-pass valve.Slide valves with Stephenson link motion and pole reverser on the footplate.
The compound cylinders, the counter-balanced crank and the heavy solid flywheel makes the engine very smooth. 3 speed gearing and differential with a winch on the nearside hind wheel. Water lifter fitted on the belly tanks. This is a very impressive engine and with the sprung front axle and rubber tyres makes it a very useable road engine. The belly tanks of course gives it a decent range when on the road.
