A particularly nice wagon built from a Maxitrak kit. It is based on the very successful 5 ton Aveling & Porter type FGP steam wagon first produced in 1909. This 3" scale version is fitted with a silver soldered copper boiler built by Chedder Models. It has two speed drive with chain drive to the rear wheels as per its full size counterpart. Single cylinder (2" bore x 2 1/2" stroke) with Stephensons valve gear and pole reverser in the cab. Boiler feed is by mechanical pump with by-pass, injector and, just in case, a hand pump is also fitted. It has nicely spoked cast wheels on rubbers and the front axle is sprung.

Although being in 3" scale, the wagon is just shy of 6 feet in length and the driver actually sits in the wagon with their legs on footrests either side so he or she actually feels more "at one" with the vehicle. This particular wagon steams well and is fun to drive as well as being an attractive model which is light and easily transportable. There are nice little touches to this wagon eg. stop wedges hanging from the rear body and there is a rear to the  cab with scale shovel and the roof even has a scale hurricane lamp. All boiler history is available along with assembly and operating instructions.

Maxitrak are still producing these kits and there is a very active Maxitrak Owners Club. There is a rolling chassis kit of this model on Maxitrak's website priced at £8975.00 so the complete wagon we are advertising presents excellent value. Just add coal and water!
