A very rare opportunity to own a very rare and capable half size showmans' scenic road locomotive.

The engine was built in 1989 by Graham Whitwell alongside a team of engineers. It was designed to based on 'General Gough', and was purchased for our own use in 2007. For the past couple of years, this engine has been used very successfully used for our steam courses. The seat across the back provides access to the steering wheel for a steersman and a spare seat for a passenger. The driver can comfortably stand on the footplate.

Since purchasing the engine, we have carried out large amounts of restoration work which resulted in a large amount of boiler work (Including increasing the number of tubes to 29 and a new fire box) by Arron Tiefel, a full repaint by Heritage Painting and Caroline Stabb, as well as a full rebuild by George Balsdon and friends. The resultant engine is now both highly capable and more like 'General Gough' than ever before. We road the engine to a number of local rallies, indeed on the 4th August 2017, we roaded the engine for the third time from our premises in Exeter to Torbay Steam Fair, Brixham. This is a journey of 28 miles and is certainly a challenge for scale engines. We have done a huge amount with this engine including; taking it up Shelsey Walsh hill climb, generating annually at the Great Dorset Steam Fair and participating in a number of local carnivals.

It is a highly capable engine which has had a great deal of work and love put into it. It is a double crank compound with three gears. It has two injectors and a mechanical water pump. It is fitted with a standard whistle and a steam siren. The main dynamo runs at 110v and was rallied for several seasons running a 32 keyless organ we used to own. All of the motion is stainless steel with new pistons and valve rods added in the most recent rebuild. The gearing is excellent on the road, having been clocked at an approximate top speed of 12mph. Generally speaking we average the speed at between 5 and 7mph, which is pleasant speed for longer road runs in top gear. Although never done, it is believed to be capable of pulling in excess of 15 tonnes, over 5 times its own weight.

The engine weighs 2.7 tonnes. We have a custom built road trailer which the engine fits too nicely to be pulled behind a vehicle such as a Land Rover or Toyota Land Cruiser. All in, the weight has been verified as in at 3.5 tonnes. This custom built road trailer will be sold seperately. Further we also have a very pleasant 6" scale Tracton Wagon which is also being sold seperately.

We have an extensive service history from new, as well as all receipts and paint codes. We have custom sheets and filler for the roof included in the sale. King of the Road lamps are available with negotiation.

Overall a lovely engine with very strong boiler good for many years and excellent for the road.
