A fairly fresh example of the every popular 3" Plastow Burrell. Small enough to lift into car with 3 people, but large enough to pull double that number of people around the rally field! This was started in 1988 with the boiler build by the previous owner when and took a number of years to reach its current state. It is steamable and finished but has very little use. Although I can't confirm, I would judge from the paperwork that the build concluded around 2015. Since then it hasn't been rallied and used only very lightly by the previous owner.

It does have a couple of slightly 'freelanceish' features about it, such as the pressure gauge and the single poppet valve. None of the adaptations would take much to revert back to how they 'should' be according to the drawings (I say should loosely as many of the features, although don't add to the look, do often help functionality and user comfort!) We will certainly be replacing the pressure gauge with a 3/4" gauge from LSM before it leaves our premises however.

Having seen very little use, it is still quite tight and not really run in yet. This would make a fantastic opportunity to own it and either keep it as it is, or to buy and quietly alter it over the winter without needing to do anything too major beyond tinkering. It does have a current hydraulic certificate until 2021 with the Northern Association of Model Engineers, however do feel free to discuss the boiler testing with us for the options with testing. The previous owner has never had a steam test on it as it was never used in public.

It is, of course, fitted with the usual injector and mechanical water pump. It is 2-speed and the castings are as per Plastow's design. The paint is reasonable but slightly patchworked with a couple of shades of green present so, again, either good for use as it is or something to tinker with.

Overall a good, operational engine which provides a good starting point for those seeking to enter the hobby, or as a smaller toy for someone looking for something to tinker with. Let us know if you wish to view it and we can arrange for you to see it either in steam or cold.
