Make: McLaren Model type: 4" scale road loco Reg Number:Q381 RFB Dimensions: Length 6' 7" Width 3' 2" Height 4' 3" |
We have known this engine for a while and at last we have recently acquired it. Built from castings supplied by Double B. Because of the size and the engineering complexity of these McLarens, there are not too many around. Based on Boadicea a 10 NHP engine of 1919, they are impressive, fast (especially in high gear on the road), very powerful but are easy to steam and drive. A true double crank compound 3 speed, 4 shaft engine with Stephensons valve gear and pole reverser on the footplate. The canopy is removable but has a cutout which makes it easier to drive with it in place. The engine has two seats one single seat and the other big enough to carry 3 people ( and the front end still won't lift). Fitted with belly tanks as per its full size counterpart with steam powered water lifter. There are period electric headlamps fitted with a small battery cunningly hidden in the nearside toolbox. Registered for road use and fitted with rubber tyres. The engine steams and runs well however the paintwork is a little tired in places.
