After a long wait, the engine has now returned from being painted and is ready for reassembly to begin.
It came back on Friday 18th March and looks amazing. As you can see from the images it is maroon and red, and has been done to perfection.

When we started to reassemble on the Sunday however nothing was quite going to plan. Every piece was just not right and it seemed like the project was never going to finish, however by the end of Sunday we were beginning to make headway with the steamer and it was beginning to come together. The pictures are from the end of Sunday’s work.

We then continued with the help of a good friend David Smith, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening of this week so far and plan to spend as much time as possible in continuing with the engine.

After much thought we decided to call the engine Fred, very simple but of course ties in with Fred Dibnah and is the same name as our dog!

Even now though we still have a list of problems to overcome such as none of the pipe work no longer fits due to the shorter boiler and new clack valves being fitted, we also have various pieces missing which have to found or replaced.

I will update you in a couple of weeks once the lagging is fitted and the lining completed.
