The engine is a true half size version of Burrell Scenic Showmans No. 3888 "General Gough" owned by Nigel Myers.
This engine was purchased by us in September 2007 and was soon re-tubed along with other remedial work to carry us through the 2008 season.
In preparation for the 2009 season it was then decided that the ‘General' required a new smoke box and as the engine had never been built with a water pump to have a new one fitted, hence the removal of the crank. The eccentrics on the crank are loose which might be the reason engine doesn't run that well plus there is a lot of play in some of the moving parts.
As with all in depth remedial work other items which need repairing or replacing are discovered during the course of the work. The differential for instance has had to have a new bush made for it as there was an excessive amount of movement in the workings.
More Progress
The angle grinder was used to make the box fit the barrel. The front end was then re-assembled but then had to have the smoke box, barrel and dynamo bracket resprayed.
The front axle and dynamos were refitted. So that a greater amperage could be generated the main dynamo has been re-wired.
Should all soon be ready for another summer season.
