It is a delight to have been commissioned to advertise for sale an early example of the 'Rock and Roll' car of 1960's Britain. This is an example of the rare Ford Consul Mark 2 Highline in the convertible, two-door arrangement.
This model was produced by Ford UK between 1956 and 1962. The example offered for sale is from the very start of production and is the harder to come by 'Highline' Consul. The current owner has known the car for a long time; it was purchased by our client's late father in 1962 and has since been kept in dry storage. It was in use before being laid up around 20 years in that same dry storage. Prior to the current family's ownership, the car was built in 1956 and dispatched new to the first owner in Guernsey who kept it for several years. A very honest history and so today it is presented as a very honest car. The storage arrangement means it has survived until today in a virtually rust-free state. It is still laid up in the very store it has spent the majority of its life and the owner has opted to avoid disturbing or tampering with it too much to give the prospective buyer the opportunity to start from scratch. Having said that, despite being laid up for such a time and so needing an overhaul to return it to fully roadworthy condition; the owner sees no reason (and we agree) as to why it wouldn't run following some engine checks and tweaks, a new battery and some fuel.
Included in the sale will be all the parts around the car in the workshop, including some hard to come by spares. The host of spares includes exhaust systems, body panels, hood hoops, original luggage racks, lights/reflectors, windscreen and side glasses, doors, engine/gearbox, and suspension units. These are to be sold as part of the lot with the car and are not to go separately. Extras on the car itself include the hydraulically operated hood, which is present.
The final photo in the listing features the car some years ago, around when it last would have been on the road. An impressive vehicle which makes a relatively light restoration for an impressive car!
