A very honest example of the Excelsior R10 Roadmaster, featuring a Villers 197cc two-stroke engine. This is a running example which, like many of these classic lightweight motorcycles, could do with some tinkering in the workshop before being a very usable, yet rare, classic.

Excelsior was a British motorcycle manufacturer based in Birmingham and has its roots at the start of motorcycling history with the original company being credited for producing the first British motorcycle, in 1896. Sadly, the company produced its last motorcycle in 1964 and folded in 1965. They featured a broad range of two-stroke motorcycles in their later years, one of which is featured here for sale. These small, two-stroke classics seem to be becoming increasingly popular in the next generation of classic motorcycle enthusiasts owing to them being an inexpensive way into classic motorcycle ownership, relatively easy and cheap to work on, and lightweight for transport and easy riding.

In generally good condition with evidence of an earlier restoration, especially in the paintwork on the fuel tank. The paintwork elsewhere is generally acceptable with the correct transfers present. It is complete and runs nicely, albeit needing some time spending to adjust the tick-over setup. It starts with relative ease and the inside of the fuel tank looks clean. The wiring will need attention; as such there is no battery on the bike as, presumably, the previous owner used it without and relied on the engine for power. The wiring harness is relatively basic, and it would simply need some time with a wiring diagram to figure out where the issues are. It seems a relatively original example to an original paint scheme. The engine is easy to source parts for, contributing to its ease to work on. The V5C is present and it is registered for the road.

Overall, this would be a good way of getting into classic motorcycle ownership without massive costs.
