Model Type General Purpose Traction Engine
Boiler Construction Commerical copper
Boiler Maker Bishop-Ellis (original hydraulic certificate included)
Design John Haining
Year c. 1985
Fuel Coal
Condition Excellent
Asking Price £5,995

Built to an exceptional standard in around 1985 to the design featured by John Haining in the Model Engineer from 6th October 1978 to 7th December 1979. It is a remarkably well-presented example which looks to have been fired (possibly on gas, it is difficult to tell but the soot deposits are minimal) only a handful of times in its life. The machining work is excellent, and the paint sets the engine apart from similar examples we have seen over the years. Made by an accomplished model engineer to a show standard.

Key Features:

  • What looks to be a commercially made, silver-soldered copper boiler accompanied by the original hydraulic test certificate from the maker.
  • Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. A typical agricultural general purpose traction engine.
  • Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted, as standard.
  • Mechanical lubricator, Salter type pressure release valve and dummy governors.
  • Mechanically, it has been machined and built to a high standard throughout.
  • Excellent paint throughout in a pleasant livery and with nicely applied lining. The paint is to a high standard and really sets this engine apart.
  • Fitted with rubber tyres over the pre-existing strakes giving the engine an authentic appearance.
  • Speak to us about boiler testing options for this example going forward - it is unusual for us to carry out our full commercial inspections on a 2" scale engine, but we can advise about the options going forward and what we can offer.

Overall, an excellent miniature traction engine which will give the buyer plenty of fun. A superb piece of high-quality miniature engineering.
