A nicely presented example of the 3” scale Burrell to the design by H. R. Plastow. Built using a copper boiler by an excellent engineer who held it as part of their collection. We must say it is one of the finest machined examples of this model we have seen and the attention to details is truly superb and a real credit to the builder.

Key Features:

  • Presumed non-commercial copper boiler. Unfortunately, there is no previous paperwork trail however, being of copper construction, this is a less of problem than if it was made of steel and welded. Assuming no problems are found (and there would be no reason why there would be!), we see no reason why a boiler inspector would be unable to offer an inspection on this one. For further clarification about what we can offer, give us a call for a friendly chat.
  • Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. A typical agricultural general purpose traction engine design.
  • Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard.
  • Steam whistle, dummy Pickering style governors, mechanical lubricator, dummy displacement lubricator and the correct Ramsbottom type pressure release valves.
  • Mechanically, it has been machined and built to a very good standard throughout. It looks to have seen very little use or has been well looked after!
  • Painted nicely with lining in all of the usual places. The pinstriping is splendid with real attention to detail throughout.
  • The wheels are fitted with metal strakes with rubber tyres bolted over the top, similar to the method used by many full-size engine owners fitting tyres to their engines.
  • Speak to us about boiler testing options for this example going forward.
  • To include a half-day tuition session, if requested by the buyer.

Overall, a particularly fine example of the popular Plastow design!
