Model Type General Purpose Traction Engine
Boiler Construction Copper
Design W. J. Hughes
Year Unknown
Gears 2-speed
Fuel Coal
Condition Good Condition
Asking Price £2,995

A fine example of the 1 1/2" scale Allchin based on 7NHP traction engine 'Royal Chester'. A famously modelled engine in this scale to the drawings by W. J. Hughes, this is a live steam miniature traction engine which is coal operated but is equally at home as a superb display piece exhibiting some great model engineering. This example looks to have never been fired. We would be happy to conduct a demonstration using compressed air if the buyer intends to use the engine as more than a display piece.

Key Features:

  • Silver-soldered copper boiler of unknown origin. We would not typically instruct our boiler tester to examine an engine of this size at point of sale but do speak to us about your boiler testing options going forward if that is a requirement.
  • Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. A typical agricultural general purpose traction engine design based on the famous 'Royal Chester'.
  • Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard.
  • Mechanical lubricator, and Ramsbottom type pressure release valves. Also fitted with dummy Pickering style governors to complete the top of the cylinder block.
  • It has been machined and built to a good standard throughout.
  • The paint is good albeit showing signs of wear in places. The pinstriping is finely applied paint which is simplistic but completes the livery.
  • The wheels are on metal strakes, correct for how 'Royal Chester' (and similar agricultural traction engines) would've originally been presented.

Overall, a great miniature traction engine based on a famous prototype and presented in good order throughout.
