Here is a wonderful opportunity to own a pair of Russell Newbery stationary engines. In 1909 having served their apprenticeship with Royce Engineering in Manchester, Frederick Russell and William Newbery setup their own business, the Russell Newbery Company. They established a works in Altrincham.
‘RN’ implements are water-cooled petrol or diesel engines, which were originally built for marine and industrial applications.
Nowadays, Russell Newbery engines tend to be seen in canal narrowboats, although the RN Diesel Engine Company name still exists (now based in Warwickshire), manufacturing a range of diesel engines of the traditional design.
Presented for sale on behalf of the owner is this attractive outfit of two engines mounted on a twin axle trailer.

Fuel – Diesel
The ‘HUSKY’ vertical diesel engine is rated at 8bhp and runs at 1500rpm. These engines were built from 1953 although the date of this particular engine is unknown. The history of this engine is also unknown to us; however, it is presented in full working order and in very good condition. A plate can be seen in the photos stating its works number as ‘715A1810’.
Russell Newbery Petrol Engine: (pictured right)
Fuel – Petrol
Dated from the early 1920’s, unfortunately we do not have any information on this engine’s history or what it did in its working days. There is no identification work/repair plate. It is presented well and starts readily on the handle. It is the standard, single cylinder design with spark ignition.
Overall, this is certainly an unusual opportunity and a great pair of engines!
