Offered for sale on behalf of the owner, this charming Austin Seven Ruby is now offered for sale from our showroom near Exeter!

A later example dating from 1937, this Austin Seven benefits from being in the later generation of ‘Rubys’ fitted from new with a 747cc 4-cylinder, three-bearing engine. It is electric start with coil ignition and a 4-speed + reverse gearbox. The Austin Seven was considered by many to be a world changing car. Over 290,000 were produced in the 16 years of original manufacture. Even after the conclusion of manufacture just before the second world war in 1939, the Austin Seven name was used in other models over the years, simply because of the marketing importance of the brand in conquering the economy car market!

Cosmetically, this delightful Ruby looks to be an older restoration with the associated signs of slight deterioration. Despite that, it is a good driving car which drives and stops well on its wire wheels. Our only observation is that we would recommend tyre replacement sooner rather than later owing to cracks showing in the side walls. There is no sign of any significant corrosion with the wings being solid along with the other major components. The running boards are covered in rubber which is probably the only part which lets the look down slightly. The car is finished in a black paint externally with dark tan upholstery. The interior is nicely worn but tidy and clean. The roof lining is complete and secure with a good covering of carpet below. There is a sunroof which is showing no signs of leaking.

A good honest car with plenty of character. It is a great little economy Austin which is a good show car for collectors and beginners alike.
