After a few years in this original ownership, Mr Baseley traded in this K7 along with its sister for a pair of the larger BB1 ploughers. Thereafter, No. 15279 alongside No. 15278 spent the remainder of their working days at Claymills Pumping Station where they worked until the 1950s. Its life at Claymills Pumping Station was well documented including a maintenance and operation works. The matching pair of engines have now separated ways however No. 15278 also survived into preservation.
Prior to purchase by the current owners, Fowler No. 15279 was subject to a major boiler overhaul by reputable boiler engineer Isreal Newton; this included a replacement firebox. It was acquired by the present owners in 2009 and they have enjoyed ‘Neville’ for a number of years. Most recently, it went to Swanage Railway Works in 2017 for a new smokebox, fresh hydraulic, new set of tubes and new dog clutch. They have also instructed a full repaint using the original drawings for authenticity. During their ownership, the current owners have also fitted a new c. 800yard cable, new upright shaft, injector, rubber quad tracks and various other components.
Overall, a good ploughing engine which has been well-maintained. Being slightly smaller than some ploughing engines in preservation, the K7 is easier for moving around and for use on the road. It is ready to go to work to be enjoyed by a new owner!
