We are delighted to offer for sale, on behalf of the owner, this historical Marshall Steam Road Roller of Dingles heritage. Presented now in part-restored condition, it would certainly make a superb project which would result in a highly sought after roller with true West Country provenance.
Accompanying No. 75826 is a fascinating folder of correspondence and information linking to the Westcountry history of AF 6015. Notable documents include copies of the original build specification, a parts book from 1926, a continuation buff logbook showing Dingles as owners at that stage and letters to Cornwall Council from the original buyer seeking information about its location in 1967.
The story outlined in the letter dated 1967 is that Mr Foster, formally of the Devon and Cornwall Roller Company, ordered the roller on behalf of the company after Colonel Marshall (a director of Marshalls at the time) stayed with him with the view to selling a roller. After a late night of bargaining, Mr Foster agreed to buy a roller, living van and water cart for the total price of £1,000 including delivery – this was the order that resulted in the build of No. 75826! Mr Foster later sold the Devon and Cornwall Roller Company, including No. 75826 to Dingle & Sons.
Following spending what looks like the majority of its life in ownership around Devon and Cornwall, No. 75826 is now offered for sale partway through a rebuild. A lot of work has been conducted and included is a pallet load of parts required to get it back into steam. Although the boiler has not been worked on, the owner informs us that the boiler is serviceable however is due an overhaul in the not-too-distant future. As with the sale of any steam engine or locomotive, we always strongly recommend buyers employ the services of their own boiler inspector to take independent advice prior to completing a purchase of this nature.
A remarkable, 10-ton roller with a wonderful amount of pedigree and potential to take to the rally field. Currently available for viewings, along with included paperwork and parts, at our premises near Exeter, Devon.
