A superbly built example of the 4-4-0 SR Schools Class Locomotive, built originally by J. P. Mercer (a founding member of the Tonbridge Wells Club) in 1973 using works drawings and research. Built to exhibition standard, the quality of workmanship is superb. The builder of this specific locomotive, Mr Mercer, worked as a technical drawer for the original designer of the Schools Class Locomotive, R.E.L Maunsell. Mr Mercer built this example through the 1960s and 70s before it ran at Tonbridge Wells and spent a good number of years on display at his bank.
It is showing its age a little now, being a model of over 50 years old, but it still stands as an impressive locomotive in working order.
As with most railway locomotives we sell, we are happy to check them over in our workshops. We don’t offer the full warranty services as we do with our miniature road engines, but we can reassure buyers that we are honest with explaining the condition and that our experience with road steam engines reflects into the occasional locomotive that we offer for sale. This does not affect your statutory rights as a buyer.
