A fair example of the unusual steam-powered Suffolk Dredging Tractor in 3″ scale.
Based on the John Haining design from the Model Engineer in 1980, it’s fitted with a copper boiler of the water cross tube Yorkshire design. It is in good working order and supported by commerical boiler paperwork from recent years.
Key Features:
- It is currently accompanied by a folder of relevant paperwork. Please speak to us regarding boiler testing going forward.
- Injector and mechanical water pump.
- Single-speed, twin piston arrangement. Designed to be a high-revving engine which is mounted vertically behind the boiler.
- Fitted with rubber tyres.
- Mechanical lubricator and locomotive type pressure release valves.
- Fitted with a large winch under the water tank.
- There is room for improvement cosmetically in the paint, but it isn’t particularly untidy. Further, there is no toolbox which can be seen on other models, and the boiler does not have lagging or casing, so there’s room for the new owner to put their mark on it and make it their own if they wish!

Overall, an interesting miniature which is a great entry-level steam engine.
