A virtually unused example of the popular 3-speed 4 1/2″ scale Foden built using a boiler, castings and drawings from John Rex Model Engineers. The boiler is dated 2010 and the builder tells us the build concluded around 8 years ago. Since completion, it has been steamed only a small handful of times but has been run on compressed air occasionally to keep the motion moving.
Key Features:
- The welded steel boiler was made by respected boiler makers, John Rex Model Engineers in 2010. It includes appropriate documentation, and we would be happy to include a new commercial boiler inspection. As it has not been used publicly before, the paperwork currently consists only of the original boiler paperwork supplied by the boiler maker. The boiler itself is in excellent order, having seen only a handful of steamings and having been kept properly since build completion.
- A twin-cylinder (non-compound), 3-speed arrangement with slide valves actuated by Stephenson’s linkages. The boiler is intended to operate at 140psi.
- Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard. Also fitted with a hand pump.
- Twin mechanical lubricators and pressure release valves with a whistle.
- Built to a high standard throughout with an excellent build quality. Having seen very little use, it is still very new in the motion and would benefit from running in. Although it will be checked and receive our usual 3-month warranty, the buyer should expect to be resolving small teething issues as the engine settles in, as typical with any new build engine.
- The paint is very good and looks smart. The signwriting is stickers which gives the buyer the opportunity to either use it as it is or remove them for their own livery.
- The flatbed and sides are made from high-quality teak which provides a hardwearing finish.
- The wheels are on pneumatic tyres which means it goes well! It is not currently registered for road use.
- Includes a half-day tuition session, if requested by the buyer.
Overall, an excellent opportunity to own a miniature engine which has seen very little use.
