Miniature Road Steam

An example of the very popular 4″ scale Burrell single cylinder traction engine, as supplied to the builder in kit form from Steam Traction World. This one was subject to a fairly long-term build having a boiler dated from 2015.

The builder has done a careful job of assembling it but once completed, was content running it several times on compressed air. It came to us unsteamed so we have now commissioned it for steam meaning, from a wear and tear perspective, this engine is as new!

Key Features:

• The welded steel boiler was commercially made by Steam Traction World in 2015 and is accompanied by full documents. We would be happy to include a new commercial boiler inspection including a 10-yearly hydraulic test and 14 monthly in-steam/internal examination.  The paperwork also includes a set of Steam Traction World instructions.
• A single-cylinder, 2-speed arrangement with a slide valve actuated by a Stephenson’s linkage.
• Mechanical water pump and steam injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard.
• Steam whistle, mechanical lubricator, and pressure release valves, as expected. Also fitted with a set of dummy governors and a water lifter.
• Well-built to a high standard throughout, consistent with engines build using kits provided by Steam Traction World. Having been steamed only a handful of times for commissioning here, there is virtually no wear on the motion or gears. Our only note regarding this engine is that, as with any new build engine, the buyer should be aware that, despite us steaming it as much as possible, there will inevitably be a ‘settling in period’.
• The paintwork is nicely done! It is in a traditional scheme with smart lining in the key places. If we were being fussy, a little of the lining on some of the corners could be improved but we think it is a great attempt and certainly doesn’t detract from the overall look!
• The wheels are fitted with rubber tyres for use on hard ground. It is not registered for road use.
• Includes a half-day tuition session, if requested by the buyer. 

Overall, a nicely presented, very honest Burrell traction engine which has a long life ahead of it! Offered at a slightly lower price than usual, offering a cheaper engine to kick start your rally season…
