Offered for sale is this nicely presented 6” Foden Lorry, built by the owner over a long period of time including a welded steel boiler dated 2007 from Bell Boilers. This lorry is unique as it has been built by the owner from works drawings using his own patterns and castings – it hasn’t been built using a kit or pre-existing set of miniature drawings. We understand it was finished in c. 2016 at which point it was registered for the road. Receipts for parts date back as far as 2002.
Key Features:
- Welded Steel Boiler commercially made by Bell Boilers. It looks in good order with good plate thicknesses and clean inside. The folder of paperwork includes the original material and conformity paperwork from Bell Boilers, as well as a selection of recent boiler reports and build photos. We intend on including a fresh commercial hydraulic and steam inspection within the sale.
- Three-speed, double crank compound cylinder arrangement to the original Foden design. Slide valves actuated by Stephenson’s linkages.
- Compound example with a working pressure of 220PSI.
- Mechanical water pump and injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam, as standard.
- Mechanical lubricator, steam whistle, displacement lubricator and pressure release valves.
- A long wheelbase chassis with timber sides and double wheels on the rear. It is on pneumatic tyres all around.
- The cab has been built a little higher than the typical 6” scale Foden – we don’t think it detracts from the overall look however makes driving much more comfortable!
- Mechanically, the engine has been built to a high standard throughout. It looks to have only seen a little use with plenty of life in the bearings. It is a credit to the owner and builder.
- Cosmetically, the paintwork is smart with signwriting over the traditional green and red livery. The owner has added a few brass features, such as olivers on the cab, to give it a little extra character.
- It is registered for road use.
Overall, an impressive 6” scale Foden which is a unique build and which has been conducted to a high standard. It is a pleasure to drive and sits nicely. Being a compound with a working pressure of 220PSI, it is a powerful engine which would perform well on the road with its three gears.
