Offered for sale is this appealing 4″ scale Foster, fitted with a fully functional crane attachment and canopy. Built originally in 1991, the most recent hydraulic was commercially conducted in January 2025. Regretfully, whilst currently still in ticket until March 2026, the boiler inspector has stated that the boiler will likely be no longer fit for service when the current set of tubes fail. We have confirmed those thickness readings and can confirm the firebox crown is close to failing inspection.
Due to our current workload in our busy workshops, we have decided to advertise this as a project miniature requiring those works, rather than conducting the work here. The current report is in place for now so there is no reason why a buyer can’t carry on with the engine a little longer before needing to carry out the works. If needed, we are happy to recommend a welded boiler specialist who would be able to conduct the firebox replacement/supply a new boiler.
Key Features:
- Steel boiler made by Bill Newcombe in 1991. The current boiler report is commercial and is valid until March 2026. Please see our introductory paragraph for the full details of the boiler condition. For further information, please speak to Matt on 01392 833301.
- Two-speed, single cylinder arrangement. Slide valve actuated by Stephenson’s linkage.
- Mechanical water pump, hand water pump and injector fitted for filling the boiler when in steam.
- Foster mechanical lubricator, steam siren and pressure release valves. It is also fitted with dummy governors.
- Full winch wire inside rear wheel. Fully functional crane.
- Includes full set of firing irons, a full set of three lamps and drawings.
- Mechanically, the engine has been built to a good standard throughout. It has clearly been maintained well over the years and is fairly typical of this age of miniature.
- Cosmetically, it is painted in a traditional livery and looks the part.
- It is fitted with rubber tyres and is registered for use on the road.
Overall, a superb engine which offers a way of getting onto the rally field on a budget now with the promise of a project in the near future.
